About Me

all about garage door screen doors

The attached garage on my home isn't used as a typical garage. Instead, it is used as an extension of our family room. Since we have six kids living in our not-so-big house, we have worked to transform the garage into a game room of sorts. One thing that I struggled with was keeping the garage door closed in the evenings to keep the bugs from coming in. This problem was solved with the installation of a garage door screen door. Find out all about garage door screen doors right here on my blog. You will find out what types you have to choose from and how to go about installing them.

Learn How To Properly Clean A Garage Door

Cleaning a garage door should be considered a necessary piece of maintenance that must be done every few months when the seasons change. This task is simple and will remove all the dirt and debris that builds up on the door. Here is a step-by-step set of instructions that will teach you how to clean a garage door.

To complete this cleaning job you will need the following items:

A bucket of hot water

Dish soap

A sponge

A soft bristle scrub brush

Rags

A pressure washer

Access to a water supply

Access to electricity

1 - Start by filling the bucket with hot water and then mixing in a couple squirts of dish soap. Mix the two together until the soap dissolves and you have a soapy water mixture.

2 - Dunk the sponge in the soapy hot water and then apply it to the dirty areas of the garage door. Make sure to cover the entire surface area of the garage door, and then take the soft bristled scrub brush and scrub the entire surface area of the door. Let it soak for five minutes to begin to break down to dirt and grime on the garage door.

3 - While the soapy water is soaking on the garage door, hook up the pressure water to a water supply by connecting it to a garden hose. Make sure that you have enough hose that you can reach all areas of the garage door. Then connect the pressure water to a power supply by plugging it into an electrical socket.

4 - Use the pressure washer on a medium setting to rinse away all the soapy water off the door. If there are areas of the door that still have dirt on them, switch the pressure washer to the high setting to increase the water pressure and blast away the dirt.

5 – Use the dry rags to dry off all the remaining water.

Once the job is done and the garage door is clean, you can test the mechanical functions of the door. If the garage door fails to open or close properly, you should call in a professional garage door repair technician like Rogers Overhead Door Co that can take apart the electrical and mechanical elements of the door without damaging the door. They can examine all aspects of the door to find exactly what the problem is with the door that is causing it to malfunction.
